National Guard:
logo, challenge coin & merch

I was asked by the Command Team at Camp Edwards Training Site (National Guard) to design a logo that incorporated the unit patch and the Camp Edwards motto, “Readiness Starts Here,” into a cohesive mark that could be used across multiple applications, including merchandise, signage, and a military challenge coin.

The process

I partnered closely with the Command Team at Camp Edwards to design a logo that needed to function across a wide range of physical and environmental applications—from embroidered clothing and promotional items to a challenge coin and on-site signage. Early conversations focused on understanding the unit’s mission, culture, and how the mark would be used in real-world conditions, ensuring the design would feel authentic, durable, and timeless rather than trend-driven.

To support this versatility, I developed a round badge design that could scale and translate seamlessly across multiple formats and production methods. The circular structure allowed for consistent legibility and balance whether the logo was reproduced as a small embroidered patch, a struck metal coin, or large-scale signage.

the result

The logo was successfully applied across multiple formats, including a custom Challenge Coin for the Garrison Commander, embroidered patches on hats and shirts, and extended uses on signage and mugs. The round badge design translated cleanly from metal to embroidery to print, maintaining clarity, durability, and visual consistency across all applications.
